Privacy Policy

Mitzvah Log ("the app") is a personal Jewish mitzvah-tracking app. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and — just as importantly — what it does not do with your data.

The short version

• There is no account, sign-up, or login.
• All of your logged mitzvot, goals, badges, streaks, and settings are stored only on your device.
• The app does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or any third-party tracking.
• The app never sells or shares your personal data with anyone.

Information stored on your device

The app stores the following locally on your device only (never transmitted to us, because we don't operate any server that receives it):

• Your logged mitzvot and the date/time each was logged
• Your home screen mitzvah selection, order, and any custom mitzvot you add
• Your daily/weekly goals, streaks, and earned badges
• Your reminder and notification preferences, including any custom times you set
• Your Shabbat-observance setting and an optional zip code, if you choose to enter one instead of using your device's location

This data stays on your device. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. There is no cloud backup or sync operated by us.

Location

If you enable Shabbat-related features, or use "Find a Minyan," the app can use your device's location — or a zip code you enter instead — for two purposes:

• Calculating accurate halachic times (candle-lighting, Havdalah, sunset, Sof Zman Shema, and related Hebrew-calendar suggestions), sent directly to Hebcal to perform that calculation
• Finding nearby synagogues via Apple Maps when you use "Find a Minyan"

In both cases, your location is used only for that specific request — it is not stored by us, associated with your identity, or used for any other purpose. You can decline location access and use a zip code instead for halachic times, or simply not use these features at all.

Notifications

Reminders — both daily per-mitzvah reminders and "notify me for mitzvah suggestions" — are scheduled entirely on your device using Apple's local notification system. No notification content or scheduling data is sent to any server operated by us.

Third-party services the app connects to

Certain features open content from, or request data from, the following third-party services. Your use of these is subject to their own privacy policies, which we don't control:

• Hebcal (hebcal.com) — Jewish calendar, zmanim, Torah portion, and Daf Yomi data
• Sefaria (sefaria.org) — Torah, Talmud, and prayer texts
• Apple Maps / MapKit — used for the "Find a Minyan" nearby-synagogue search and for getting directions
• YouTube — an embedded/linked instructional video
• Wikipedia — the "View All 613 Mitzvot" reference table
• Charitable organization websites linked from the "Give Tzedakah" screen (currently: Jewish National Fund, American Friends of Magen David Adom, Chabad, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Jewish Federations of North America, and Yachad)

These are opened either via an in-app browser or Apple's native APIs; we don't intercept, log, or store what you view or do on those sites. If you choose to donate through one of the charity links, that transaction happens entirely on the organization's own website — we never see or process any payment information.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and since there is no account system or data collection beyond what's described above, there is no meaningful personal data to collect from anyone, child or adult.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will be posted at this same URL with a revised "last updated" date above.
